Protest against assault on Chakma Rani Yan Yan by Bangladeshi Army: "You may kill me, my family and my wife but you cannot kill my people" says Chakma Raja

RANGAMATI, FEB 20: Thousands of Jummas gathered at Rajbari in Rangamati on Monday morning to protest the assault on Her Majesty, Chakma Rani Yan Yan. The huge rally have organised by the Common people social organisation.

Speaking at the protest rally, Chakma Raja Devasish Roy said, I am not scared of anybody, My dear people you shouldn’t be too. While referring to Bangladeshi Army, he said “You may kill me, my family and my wife but you cannot kill my people."

All the Speakers strongly condemned the attack on Chakma Rani Yan Yan and rape and sexual harassment to Marma sisters by the law enforcers and demanded the punishment of the miscreants after thorough investigation.

The Chakma Queen is the Rajmata for the Chakma people. So,  the attack on Chakma Queen is tantamount to the attack on all Chakma people, said Gautam Dewan.

The Marma sisters -- aged 18 and 13 -- were admitted to the hospital on January 22. Earlier in the day, the elder one was allegedly raped while the other sexually assaulted during a drive by a team of security forces in their village, Bilaicchari.

Queen Yan Yan and a volunteer, who were looking after the welfare of the victims at Rangamati General Hospital (RGH), were physically assaulted by a group of law enforcers when they tried to prevent the girls’ abduction on February 15.

The President of Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizens Committee, Gautam Dewan, former National Human Rights Commission, member Nirupa Dewan, Professor Monsanu Chowdhury, women leader Tuku Talukder, representative of Bomang Circle, various political and social organizations Chakma Circle Chief Barrister Debashish Roy and his wife Rani Yan Yan Were were present were present in the rally.
