Dumpani Gears up for the Festival of Candle

DIYUN, NOV 27: Imagine 84,000 candles measuring 1 foot lit up in the evening and the sky is lit up with 36 Paper Hot Air Ballons (Phenach), the sight will be awe-inspiring. Dumpani Village of Diyun Circle is gearing up for Mahastabir Varan of Venerable Subhadra Bhikkhu of Buddhankur Buddha Vihar, Dumpani scheduled to be celebrated on 1st Dec. Mahastabir Varan is celebrated on the occassion of completion of 20 retreats (Varsha) of a monk (Bhikkhu) who on the occassion is ordained as Mahastabir.

As informed to ACN by the Hiyong (Temple) managing committee, the plan was to lit up 84,000 but the Theraveda Chakma Buddhists from all the villages have already deposited more than 1 lakh candle sticks for the occasion.All the bamboo candle sticks would measure one foot long. This would be first of its kind celebration at Diyun and people are eagerly waiting for the auspicious occasion.
