DELHI, JAN 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 44 candidates for Assembly elections in Tripura which is scheduled to take place on 18 February. BJP announced candidates for 44 of 51 seats on Saturday on which the party will fight in the upcoming assembly polls in the state while two candidates from Chakma tribal community got tickets.
Shri Shambu Lal Chakma will be contest from 49 Chawmanu (ST) constituency and Smt. Santana Chakma from 59 Pencharthal (ST) will contest the election. Shambu Lal Chakma is well known for his melodious voice in the Chakma community and he has sung of different genres like patriotics, classics, sad songs in Chakma language.
The meeting was chaired by BJP president Amit Shah and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and members of the party’s central committee. The BJP, however, refrained from announcing a chief ministerial candidate for the state elections.
