Bangladeshi Army turn from Saviors to Monsters: Rape victims taken away from Hospital

RANGAMATI, FEB 16: A Joint team of Law enforcers – Army, Police and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) took away forcefully two rape victims and Her Majesty Chakma Rani Yan Yan  from Rangamati Sadar Hospital at 07:25 pm yesterday.

The victims from Marma Community which aged are 18 and 13 were admitted to Rangamati Sadar Hospital on January 22. Earlier in the day, the elder one was allegedly raped while the other sexually assaulted during a drive by the members of Bangladeshi Army in their village, Bilaicchari of CHT, Bangladesh.

According to sources, the law enforcers forcefully evicted all the volunteers from the hospital and asked Chakma Rani Yan Yan and another volunteer to be remained in. Then  they shut down the electricity of the hospital and start beating to Rani Yan and volunteer. Her Majesty, Chakma Rani Yan Yan who was organising volunteers defending the victims.

Around 9 pm, Chakma Rani Yan has found but whatever the two victims went traceless after they left the hospital. Their whereabouts were unknown till 11:30pm. Meanwhile, the police said they handed over the victims to their parents.

On 12 June 1996, Kalpana Chakma was abducted allegedly at 10 am by the members of the Bangladesh Army from her home at Lallyaghona village of Rangamati in CHT still do not know whereabouts her. She was known as an active human rights activist in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and  the organizing secretary of the Hill Women’s Federation in Bangladesh
