GUWAHATI/NEW DELHI, JAN 25: Twenty-Six police cops from Northeast region will be conferred with Republic Day Police Medals as per the list released by the Ministry of Home Affairs in which 795 policemen from across the country have been chosen for the coveted honour.
04 Tripura, 02 Sikkim, 01 Nagaland, 04 Mizoram, 07 Meghalaya and 08 cops from Manipur have been selected for Republic Day Police Medals. 03 Cops for Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 04 Cops for President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) and 19 Cops have been chosen for Police Medals for Meritorious Service (PMMS).
A total of 795 police personnel from across the country have been selected for the medals this year. Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) will be conferred upon 107 policemen, President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service upon 75 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service upon 613 policemen.
Among the 107 Gallantry Awards, 66 are from J&K theatre, 35 from the areas affected by Left Wing Extremism and three from the North-East Region. Among the personnel receiving Gallantry Awards, 38 are from J&K Police, 35 from CRPF and 10 from Chhattisgarh. This year five Officers from the Indian Police Service will receive the Police Medal for Gallantry.
Tighter norms have been used to select awardees for the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service this year.
